CONFERENCE PROGRAMME


The SEYCOHAIDS 2012 Conference Programme seeks to promote scientific excellence and inquiry, encourage individual and collective action, foster multisectoral dialogue and constructive debate, and reinforce accountability amongst all stakeholders. Sessions will focus on the latest issues in HIV science, policy and practice and will also seek to share key research findings, lessons learned, best practices, as well as identify gaps in knowledge. The conference will feature abstract-driven sessions, a daily plenary session, a variety of symposia sessions, professional development workshops, and independently organized satellite meetings. In addition, the conference programme will include a number of programme activities, such as the Global Village and the Youth Programme, which are an integral aspect of the International AIDS Conference. Conference participant form

Satellites

Satellite meetings take place in the conference centre but are fully organized and coordinated by the organization hosting the satellite (private company, government agency, institution or NGO). Conference organizers make satellite slots available for a fee, which is based on the room capacity and the time slot, and will allocate slots according to availability on the conference programme.
Affiliated Independent Events
Other meetings, symposia, forums or events organized for conference delegates outside the conference venue by other organizations are referred to as Affiliated Independent Events. Affiliated Independent Events are held during times that do not conflict with the conference programme.
Organizations wishing to host an Affiliated Independent Event in cooperation with SEYCO 2012 may now apply by writing a letter to the organizers . The Affiliated Independent Events application form is available upon request. Although there is no processing or sponsorship fee associated with Affiliated Independent Events, individuals requesting event affiliation should be registered attendees of SEYCOHAIDS 2012. Please take note of the rules and guidelines before you apply. The deadline for applications is 20 April 2012.

CONFERENCE OVERVIEW



The International AIDS Conference is the premier gathering for those working in the field of HIV, as well as policy makers, persons living with HIV and other individuals committed to ending the pandemic. It is a chance to assess where we are, evaluate recent scientific developments and lessons learnt, and collectively chart a course forward.
The SEYCO 2012 programme will present new scientific knowledge and offer many opportunities for structured dialogue on the major issues facing the Regional response to HIV and SRH and R. A variety of session types – from abstract-driven presentations to symposia, bridging and plenary sessions – will meet the needs of various participants. SCHOLARSHIPS



Scholarship applications are now open. The deadline is 15 February 2012. To apply for a scholarship, please click to login to the conference profile.

The conference organizers are committed to making SEYCO 2012 accessible to people from resource-limited settings and communities, researchers, young people, community activists and civil society representatives.
However young people are encouraged to approach the following in the countries for support to attend the conference

International Scholarship Programme

The International Scholarship Programme is open to everyone around the world. Priority is given to those whose participation will help enhance their work in their own communities, to those who are able to assist in the transfer of skills and knowledge acquired at the conference, and to those whose abstract, workshop or programme activity (Youth Programme) submission has been selected.

Those interested in applying for an International Scholarship must download and complete the online international scholarship application form through their between 25 January December 2012 and 30 February 2012.

Those submitting an abstract, workshop or programme activity proposal and interested in applying for an international scholarship should start their scholarship request through the conference email. Applicants will then receive instructions on how to link their abstract, workshop or programme activity to their scholarship application.
International scholarship applicants will be asked to submit a letter of recommendation after completing the scholarship application. No international application will be accepted without submission of the letter of recommendation.
Media Scholarship Programme

A very limited number of scholarships will be available for media representatives from around the world.
Those interested in applying for a Media Scholarship must complete the online media scholarship application form through their between 25 January 2012 and 28 February 2012. Click to look through the Media Scholarship Application Form.
Media scholarship applicants will also be asked to provide media accreditation and supporting documents. No media application will be accepted without submission of the required supporting documents.
Application Criteria

Applications are open to anyone working in the field of HIV and AIDS and Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights. Most of the questions asked on the application form are related to personal details and work experience. There are also essay questions which ask for further details regarding the applicant’s organization, occupation or involvement in the field of HIV and AIDS, motivation to attend the conference and how the applicant’s organization or community would benefit from the scholarship.
Types of Support

Scholarship applicants will be able to request a full or partial scholarship.

A full scholarship includes:
·   Registration fee for the conference (includes access to all sessions and exhibitions);
·   Travel (pre-paid airfare or ground travel at the lowest fare available, from the nearest international airport or station);
·   Accommodation (shared in dormitory rooms for the days of the conference);
·   Modest daily living allowance for the duration of the conference (6  to 8 7 June 2012).
A partial scholarship includes any combination of the above.

Please note that funding is limited and demand for scholarships is high. Scholarship applicants are therefore encouraged to seek other funding as well. Scholarship application form
