NAYD was 10 years old on 27th March 2017. Quoting from the first INSPIRE magazine 'In March 2007, precisely on the 27th and 28th, some thirty youths from different youth led programmes around Africa met in Cameroon to lay the ground work for the Network of African Youths for Development (NAYD). The idea behind NAYD is to form a forum where African youths involved in Development can share information and network for better efficiency in the achievement of development goals. The meeting held under the theme “Sustainable partnerships for development” among African youths.'
Over the last 10 years our members have connected, collaborated, inspired and shared their interest in youth-led sustainable development across the African continent and beyond, growing from just 30 to over 80,000. We have produced over 60 INSPIRE magazines, held many Google Hangouts on development related matters, hosted weekly twitter shows on #NAYDchat, written hundreds of articles through our INSPIRE, SDGs, Climate Change and HIV/AIDS BLOGS and produced over 50 websites for start-up Community Build Organisations...and any member is entitled to a @nayd.org email.
NAYD doesn't offer a magic wand. It has no funding, Everything is done freely. The steering group are all volunteers who work tirelessly to help develop the African continent in a sustainable way. So thank you to all those who have given their time and talents over the years. The list is too great to mention. Many have come and gone as time has passed but all have contributed in some way. To celebrate we have produced a very short video with 6 leading African youth development activists sharing their thoughts on NAYD -
There is also an interview with NAYD founder Pochi Tamba-Nsoh at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRbbeWDJ9mk
Remember that every little selfless contribution makes a positive difference...but remember also that by holding hands we can make a big difference. Together is Better!
Heres to the next 10 years!!
